Lee Cordon

My fascination is with the geometrics of the picture plane. Because of this I look for shapes to paint. I usually paint flat, color and light are important to give a sense of space. The right type of architecture, especially old, often will have the shapes I am looking for. I am drawn to barns and factory buildings, mostly empty now, because they remind me of a more simple and innocent time. I attempt to give new meaning to the ordinary. Email: vlcordon@snet.net
Wendy Costa

Wendy Costa is fascinated by the interrelationships of reality, illusion, and memory in art. Does a photograph really look as “real” as your idea of its subject? She pushes her photos through a journey of Polaroid transfers, digital prints, paint, pastels, colored pencil, and collage in my exploration of reality. Ms. Costa holds a BFA from the University of Massachusetts and an MFA from the University of Michigan. She has been teaching art at Wamogo Regional High School since 1990. Augustine Della Vecchia

As a 44-year-old electrician who has only recently turned to sculpture, Augustine Della Vecchia would rank as an Outsider were it not for his technical expertise. He carves wood with a tender regard for its grain and texture, even its imperfections, yet the results - bowls and forms that are more or less abstract - seem almost modeled. Mr. Della Vecchia could wind up as a virtuoso craftsman, but if the Brancusi-like simplicity of "Mark Twain's Maple" is any indication, he has the makings of a fine artist. - Vivien Raynor, NY Times, Sunday, June 5, 1997.

Tim Gallagher
When Tim was 14, he noticed a type box in Fornier's Print Shop in Torrington. He acquired it and filled the spaces with objects. Since that time he has been making assemblages and sculpture from found objects, unaware for years that it was a unique and established art form. Tim is not an artist by trade, but continues to explore the creative process and visually orders his environments finding satisfaction in the pursuit of his personal aesthetic.

Richard Heys

Richard Heys makes one-of-a-kind bowls, vases, lidded boxes and related forms from locally available wood. He took up woodturning in the early 1990s as an outgrowth of hobbyist woodworking and his engagement with turning steadily developed, and in 2005 he retired in order to focus more intently on the craft. He is a member of the American Association of Woodturners and over the years has received informal instruction from various professional turners. Richard spent his career in pharmaceutical research after earning a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Stanford University in 1976. He believes that habits of visualization, developed through years of thinking about the construction of three-dimensional molecules through chemical reactions in the laboratory, have been conducive to the process of visualizing potential combinations of form, grain pattern and defect inside irregular pieces of wood and logs. The fascinating challenge is in the effort to bring out the beauty hidden there. Email: rheys@optonline.net

Barbara Clark Kraut

The figure has always interested me and has been my focus in sculpture, drawing and painting. My other passion is surrounding myself with wonderful animals that inspire me. My paintings address relationships between women and their animals as a narrative. But equally important, are the relationships between shapes and their colors to express these personal landscapes with which I hope the viewer will identify. Email: bckraut@optonline.net

Wendy A Thornley

Searching for commonalities in the work leads most obviously to the square format, an outgrowth of time spent looking through the viewfinder of the medium format camera and printing from its square negatives. The fascination with color is attributable to my omnipresent point-and-shoot digital camera that is my color sketchbook, and from my years of painting in acrylics. The incorporation of handmade paper dates from my years of using it as a material for sculpture. The fascination with repetition and patter has its roots in my years of weaving. Throughout all my art explorations however, there has been photography.
